Tobias Pahlke...

...as a painter

Dedicating himself to the opposite pole in an increasingly digital and fast-paced world, Hamburg-born illustrator Tobias Pahlke has been increasingly exploring the medium of oil and painting since 2018.

"When I go out into nature, I take my time. I take time for my observations, for a coastline, for the sky, for the countless faces of a water surface and their interplay. This creates something like a relationship with what I observe. A closeness. I pass this time and closeness on to my pictures.", describes the artist.

In this way, over the years, a carefully selected portrait of the north is created in oil.

...as illustrator

After studying communication design in Hamburg, specialising in print media, Tobias Pahlke worked in an advertising agency. There he supervised print and web design projects from the rough draft to the finished layout.

However, as his passion for illustration continued to hold him, he began working as an assistant to a Hamburg illustrator. He illustrated photorealistic projects digitally with Photoshop on topics such as food, people and landscapes for various food companies.

Since 2009, Tobias Pahlke has been working as a freelance illustrator for publishing houses, museums, theatres, advertising agencies and small to large companies. He mainly and preferably works classically with watercolours and acrylic paints. However, if the job requires it, he also works digitally in Photoshop. Thematically, he mainly works in the fields of nature, history and culture.
